The New and James Rivers are located about an hour apart. While the New currently holds the state record 45lb 8oz monster caught in June of 2007 and spits out the majority of citations (40" or bigger) registered each year with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, the James River is closing the gap quickly. |
Why Come South? Simply put, you can effectively chase muskies all year long! There are no closed seasons, and the rivers hardly ever freeze over. Better yet, one of the absolute peak times for Southern Muskies are the winter months of Dec thru early-March. Add in the fact that we are fishing over 100 miles of two trophy rivers within an hour of each other, Southern Musky Guide Service is on top of some great river musky action! |
Why fish with SMGS? Britt Stoudenmire is one of the most persistent and hardest working river musky guides in the south. A full time fishing guide for the last fifteen years, Britt has spent countless hours, days, years on the New and James Rivers hunting big fish on both conventional and fly gear while continually putting clients on big fish. |
